Principal's Message:

Welcome to Owen Sound District Secondary School's new website!! OSDSS is the result of an amalgamation of Owen Sound Collegiate and Vocational Institute and West Hill Secondary School.  We are in Owen Sound on Georgian Bay and located in the beautiful Niagara Escarpment. Owen Sound is an area known for outdoor activities such as skiing, hiking, biking, boating and sledding to name a few.  We are also a cultural centre and home to the Tom Thomson Art Gallery, Grey Roots Museum and the Roxy Theatre.

OSDSS is the largest secondary school in Bluewater with an enrolment of approximately 1200 students and over 100 staff.  We have a great Link Crew program in our school which has senior students welcome our new grade 9’s to the school and mentor them for their entire first year of secondary school.

Our parents are always encouraged to be a part of our school.  The School Community Council are a valued part of our school community.  New parents are always welcome to attend information meetings. Be sure to check our website for meeting details.

We have a wonderful diversity in our programs at OSDSS.  We offer French Immersion, allowing students to take 1/3 of their secondary courses in French.  We have a strong technology department offering courses in green technologies, construction, manufacturing, automotive, design, communications and hospitality.  The Arts are alive here!  Our drama students put on great plays each year.  Our music department is a thriving area which is award winning.  Our art department offers a wide variety of courses including both traditional arts and crafts, including photography.  We offer a very popular Specialist High Skills Major in Art and Culture  where our students will specialize in fashion and hairstyling and aesthetics.  We also offer a Specialist High Skills Major in Manufacturing Technology.

OSDSS offers a wide variety of extra-curricular opportunities in the form of teams and clubs.  We enter a team in almost every sport that participates in the Bluewater Athletic Association.  Many of our teams and athletes are very successful winning league, CWOSSA and OFSAA championships.

Vistors are always welcome!

Thank you for participating in our Remind group! Here is an update on our Remind communications:

Remind will stop offering text (SMS) messaging as a communication option effective January 28, 2019, because the cellular networks plan to start charging astronomical fees. If you currently receive Remind messages via SMS text messaging, you will no longer receive messages after January 28 UNLESS you enable email messages or download the Remind app.

How do I change my message notifications?
If you would like to change how you receive notifications for messages and announcements for groups or classes you have joined, you can do this in the app or via the web. You must have one notification turned on at all times.
App:
  • You can download the app from the app store on your device, or click here download the Remind app.
  • iOS: On the Classes list tap the person icon in the upper left, then the gear icon from the upper left.
  • Android: Click the 3 dots in the upper right, then Account, and then tap the gear icon from the top right. On this screen, you can choose how you receive message alerts.
  • Remember to turn on push notifications in the app, so that you can see when a new Remind message is sent.
Web:
  • Go to Remind.com and log in.
  • Click your name in the upper left corner and click “Account,” then “Communication.”
  • To switch from receiving texts to receiving emails, UNCHECK the “text message” box and CHECK the “email” box.
  • You can also change, add, or remove an email or phone number in your account on this page.
  • Once updated, you should receive an email confirming this change or addition.
