Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),
Boards across Ontario are required to conduct anonymous school climate surveys of their students in Grades 4 to 12, parents, and school staff at least once every two years.~ A safe, inclusive, and accepting school environment is essential for student success and well-being.~ The data collected from these surveys helps to identify gaps and areas of improvement for school and board planning aimed at preventing bullying and harassment.~ Students and staff will be completing the survey electronically between October 28 and November 12, 2019.~ Student participation is not mandatory.~ If you do notwish your child to participate, please notify us in writing. We are asking parents to complete a survey as well.~ The parent survey is available online and can be accessed through following the link:

The link can also be accessed through our school website:~

Principal's Message:

Welcome to Owen Sound District Secondary School's new website!! OSDSS is the result of an amalgamation of Owen Sound Collegiate and Vocational Institute and West Hill Secondary School.  We are in Owen Sound on Georgian Bay and located in the beautiful Niagara Escarpment. Owen Sound is an area known for outdoor activities such as skiing, hiking, biking, boating and sledding to name a few.  We are also a cultural centre and home to the Tom Thomson Art Gallery, Grey Roots Museum and the Roxy Theatre.

OSDSS is the largest secondary school in Bluewater with an enrolment of approximately 1200 students and over 100 staff.  We have a great Link Crew program in our school which has senior students welcome our new grade 9’s to the school and mentor them for their entire first year of secondary school.

Our parents are always encouraged to be a part of our school.  The School Community Council are a valued part of our school community.  New parents are always welcome to attend information meetings. Be sure to check our website for meeting details.

We have a wonderful diversity in our programs at OSDSS.  We offer French Immersion, allowing students to take 1/3 of their secondary courses in French.  We have a strong technology department offering courses in green technologies, construction, manufacturing, automotive, design, communications and hospitality.  The Arts are alive here!  Our drama students put on great plays each year.  Our music department is a thriving area which is award winning.  Our art department offers a wide variety of courses including both traditional arts and crafts, including photography.  We offer a very popular Specialist High Skills Major in Art and Culture  where our students will specialize in fashion and hairstyling and aesthetics.  We also offer a Specialist High Skills Major in Manufacturing Technology.

OSDSS offers a wide variety of extra-curricular opportunities in the form of teams and clubs.  We enter a team in almost every sport that participates in the Bluewater Athletic Association.  Many of our teams and athletes are very successful winning league, CWOSSA and OFSAA championships.

Vistors are always welcome!

Lucy Hilts
